I’ve added a new “Features” section to the left-hand column. At the moment it consists of a list of Stayers’ Watch articles, and a slightly-revised version of my Unofficial Champion Stayer Award article. I’m working on more feature articles, so stay tuned.
In his introduction to his masterpiece The Struggle for Mastery in Europe the historian A.J.P. Taylor wrote: “It becomes wearisome to add ‘except the Italians’ to every generalization. Henceforth it may be assumed”. I have made a habit of placing quotation marks around the name of the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Marathon, to indicate my objection to calling a race at the minimum stayers’ distance of 1 1/2 miles a “marathon”. But, like Taylor with his Italians, I now find it wearisome. Henceforth, the quotes may be assumed.
