Stayers' Watch: Cape Henlopen Stakes · 4.09.08
Four-year-old chestnut gelding Dinner in Odem scored in Delaware Park’s $62,250 Cape Henlopen Stakes (Ungr. T) yesterday. He came from way back to catch favourite Herboriste in the stretch and win by a neck, covering the 1 1/2 miles over a turf course rated “good” in 2:33.11. Ra Der Dean finished third.
Champion Stayer Award standings — update:

None of the top three finishers in the Cape Henlopen were among the points leaders, so the standings remain unchanged. That might change after this weekend’s Northern Dancer Turf Stakes (Grade IT) at Woodbine. The venerable gelding Better Talk Now, who earned six points for finishing second in the Sword Dancer last month, is the favourite going into Sunday’s 1 1/2 mile turf contest. Champs Elysees is another candidate for the leader board, currently with four points from his place in the Jim Murray Memorial back in May.
