Stayers' Watch: Long Island Handicap · 2.11.08
The English-bred filly Criticism, who won 4 out of 12 starts in France last year, earned her first win in North America on Saturday in the $150,000 Long Island Handicap (gr. IIIT, F/M) at Aqueduct. Criticism raced mid-pack for much of the 1 1/2-mile contest, then moved up entering the stretch took the lead with less than a furlong remaining. The 4-year-old then held off a late charge by J’ray, finishing in 2:29.76 on a “firm” turf course. J’ray finished 1 1/4 lengths in front of third-place Astrologie, who also closed well.
