Oaks and Derby results · 27.09.09
In the British Columbia Oaks this past Saturday, Tim’s analysis was almost spot-on. Edmonton shippers La Rocca and Ochoa finished 1-2, with local star Tierra Del Fuego menacing briefly but then fading to fourth.
Out-of-town horses also dominated the British Columbia Derby on Sunday, taking the top three spots in the local classic for three-year-olds. Emerald Downs shipper Winning Machine stalked the pace, then took the lead deep in the stretch and won in a drive over pace-setter Jersey Town, who normally calls Monmouth Park home. Longshot Noosa Beach, also from Emerald Downs, hung tough for third. Pre-race favourite and local hope Tommy Danzigger stalked the pace and made a move approaching the final turn, but then faded badly to finish seventh.
Results of the three Sunday features, compared to my picks in italics:
- Sir Winston Churchill Handicap: 1) Teide 2) Krazy Koffee 3) Spaghetti Mouse
- British Columbia Derby: 1) Winning Machine 2) Jersey Town 3) Noosa Beach … 7) Tommy Danzigger
- Derby Bar and Grill Express Stakes: 1) Bank Emblem 2) Distorted Glamour 3) Seminole Brave … 6) Bearrock N Roll

Great day. Great racing. Derby winner was a fantastic price for a wonderfully named horse.
