Hastings Park announces 2008 stakes schedule · 8.01.08
The recent opening of the slots parlour at Hastings infuses today’s announcement of the 2008 racing schedule with new enthusiasm. Forty stakes races, with purses totaling $2.7 million, will highlight the upcoming season, which begins Saturday April 26.
“We’re returning all Stakes to a $50,000 minimum purse and couldn’t be more pleased,” said [Raj] Mutti, who was promoted to GM last month. “There’s even been a $50,000 stakes races added – the Hastings Speed – for 3-year-olds & up on Aug. 30.”
The biggest race of the year will be the $250,000 British Columbia Derby on 21 September. The biggest single day will be BC Cup Day on 4 August, with over $450,000 in purses.
I’m looking forward to enjoying more racing days with my family this year – maybe we’ll even catch one of the Friday afternoon cards this summer.
