Stayers' Watch: Jim Murray Memorial Handicap · 20.05.10
In his first start in a long-distance race, 4-year-old colt Acclamation took the 1 1/2 mile Jim Murray Memorial Handicap (gr. IIT) at Hollywood Park on May 15. A 14-1 longshot trying to end an 11-race losing streak, Acclamation was allowed to set a leisurely pace from the start, and was never challenged. At one point he held a 10-length lead, which dwindled to about 5 lengths coming around the final turn. However, when it looked like the field was closing ground, the leader never faltered, and went on to a 7 1/2 length score. Falcon Rock finished second, a neck in front of Rendezvous. Time over firm turf: 2:26.59.
