Stayers' Watch: La Prevoyante Handicap · 31.01.11
Almost a month late, Left Coast Racing returns with Stayers’ Watch for 2011 — reporting on North American stayers’ races and the horses that run in them. First up, the 2011 running of the La Prevoyante Handicap for fillies and mares — originally scheduled at Calder Racetrack for fall 2010, then rescheduled as the final stakes race of the 2010-11 Calder schedule.
Changing Skies scored a convincing 3 3/4-length victory in the $150,000 La Prevoyante (gr. IIIT) on January 2. The 6-year-old bay mare stayed near the back of the pack for the first mile, chasing an honest pace set by first Speak Easy Gal and then by Casablanca Smile. Changing Skies then made her move, going three-wide around the final turn. She caught Casablanca Smile near the eighth pole and then easily pulled away. Casablanca Smile, winner of the Dowager Stakes in October, finished second, with Tarrip coming up for third. Time for 1 1/2 miles on a turf course rated as “good”: 2:27.91.

Surprisingly, I am seeing more and more distance contests being carded, particularly at Woodbine.
Someone is listening.
