Nice memoir in The Blood-Horse about E.P. Taylor, the man largely responsible for today’s Canadian thoroughbred industry.
The owner/breeder of Northern Dancer never let something trivial like money get in the way of what he saw as a good deal. The title of this post is not as off-colour as it may seem: it was Taylor’s only response to a neighbour who merely expressing some interest in selling her property adjoining Windfields Farm. On the other hand, according to the article, he did refuse to spend 75 cents on a stale vending machine snack.

I read a great article called “A Ghostly Night on the Roof with E.P. Taylor” all about how the great visionary had a secret ladder leading to his roof from a smaller bedroom, where he could clandestinely go up to watch his horses.
