To me, Tejida and Viva la Flag looked like the choices for this race. While neither had raced at this distance, both had run well recently. Viva La Flag had the best average speed figure over her most recent races. Based on her recent record, Tejida looked like she was improving and working her way up to competing at his level — leading in the stretch in her last two races before just giving way.
What do I know. Communique, a horse that I didn’t seriously consider despite her win at 1 1/8m earlier this month, continued to improve, and caught Tejida in deep stretch for a 1/2-length victory. Rising Cross finished third. Viva La Flag was scratched.
