True Metropolitan began his bid for a third-straight Sovereign Award with a win in the George Royal Stakes, the first stakes race of the year at Hastings Racecourse, last Saturday.
The defending-champion older horse in Canada took the lead coming into the stretch and went on to beat Spaghetti Mouse by 2 3/4 lengths. The 6-year-old gelding also set a new track record for 6f: 1:09.87.
